BULELENG, DEWATA.NEWS – A foreign national has been reported dead while taking part in a trekking activity inside West Bali National Park, in the Teluk Terima area of Sumberklampok Village, Gerokgak District, Buleleng Regency.
The incident occurred on Friday (30 January 2026) at around 10:10 WITA. Buleleng Police confirmed that the deceased was a 61-year-old American citizen identified as Brad Alan.
According to police information, the victim began trekking at approximately 10:00 WITA accompanied by a local guide. After walking about 100 meters along the forest trail, the tourist reportedly experienced severe shortness of breath.
“Based on the guide’s account, the victim held onto a tree while breathing heavily. The guide then helped him sit down to rest,” said Buleleng Police Public Relations officer IPTU Yohana Rosalin Diaz on Saturday (31 January 2026).
Moments later, the victim collapsed and lost consciousness. The guide immediately contacted West Bali National Park authorities to request emergency assistance.
At around 10:30 WITA, a response team from the national park arrived at the location and evacuated the victim to Melaya II Community Health Center in Jembrana Regency for medical treatment. However, medical personnel later confirmed that the victim had passed away while being transported to the facility.
“Based on the initial medical assessment, the victim is believed to have died due to exhaustion during the trekking activity,” IPTU Yohana said.
The body was subsequently transferred to Jembrana Regional Hospital for further handling while awaiting the arrival of the victim’s family. Hotel management where the tourist had been staying has also coordinated with the United States Consulate regarding the next steps in handling the remains.
Authorities reminded visitors to be mindful of physical condition and environmental factors when engaging in outdoor activities, particularly in conservation areas.
