DENPASAR, DEWATA.NEWS – The Australian Consulate-General in Bali, led by Consul-General Jo Stevens, held a training session on Tuesday, 9 December 2025, in support of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign. The annual initiative encourages communities worldwide to unite and take action to prevent and end gender-based violence.

This year’s theme is “UNITE to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls.” As part of the campaign, the Consulate welcomed 22 young women for an interactive session focused on recognizing digital violence and strengthening online safety practices.

The participants were students of the Bali WISE program under the R.O.L.E Foundation, a skills-based education initiative aimed at empowering young women and strengthening community sustainability in Indonesia.

The session was facilitated by Nyoman Ayu Sukma Pramestisari, a sociologist and academic from Udayana University who specializes in digital protection and women’s empowerment.

In her remarks, Consul-General Stevens emphasized Australia’s commitment to advancing gender equality.

“The Australian Government is committed to promoting gender equality, both in Australia and internationally. We know that when women and girls do not have the same rights, power, and opportunities, it creates environments where violence is tolerated, normalized, or ignored. I hope today’s discussion helps us, both as a community and as individuals, understand existing threats, take action to protect ourselves, and support survivors. Together we work to end gender-based violence in all its forms,” she said.
