KARANGASEM, DEWATA.NEWS – A foreign national from Australia has died while diving at Tulamben Beach, located in Kubu District, Karangasem Regency, on Tuesday (December 30, 2025).
The victim, identified by the initials NJS (50), was reportedly diving with two instructors at a distance of approximately 150 meters from the shoreline. According to information gathered at the scene, the incident occurred when the diver reached a depth of around 15 meters and began to panic.
During the dive, the victim allegedly removed his regulator before rapidly ascending to the surface. One of the instructors immediately called for help upon noticing the situation. A local resident responded by taking a boat out to sea, where the victim was found floating and unresponsive.
The victim was brought back to the shoreline and transported to Kubu Community Health Center for medical treatment. However, medical personnel later confirmed that he had already died, with initial findings indicating the death occurred around one hour prior to examination.
Medical checks reportedly found bruising on the chest and back, a bitten tongue, foam coming from the nose, and the body had not yet stiffened at the time of examination. The body has since been transferred to Karangasem Regional Hospital while authorities await the arrival of the victim’s family.
Kubu Police Chief I Nyoman Sukarma confirmed the incident. “Yes, it is true that a foreign national died while diving in Tulamben waters earlier today,” he said when contacted.
Tulamben is a well-known diving destination in Bali, particularly popular for its underwater sites. Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident.
