DENPASAR, DEWATA.NEWS – Foreign tourist arrivals to Bali declined in January 2026, according to the Bali Statistics Agency (BPS), marking a slowdown compared to both the previous month and the same period last year.
Head of BPS Bali Province, Agus Gede Hendrayana Hermawan, said that 502,205 international visitors arrived in Bali in January 2026. The figure represents a 12.30 percent decrease compared to December 2025.
“Under normal conditions, January is typically lower than December. However, compared to January 2025, arrivals also declined by 5.23 percent,” Hermawan said on Monday (March 2, 2026).
Most foreign visitors entered Bali by air, totaling 500,121 arrivals, a 10.50 percent month-on-month decrease. Arrivals by sea dropped sharply by 84.98 percent to just 2,084 visits.
BPS data shows Australia remained the largest source market, contributing 134,781 visitors, or 26.84 percent of total arrivals. China followed with 45,896 visits, despite a 22.54 percent monthly decline. Other major markets included India (37,351 visits), South Korea (27,508), and Russia (24,917).
Domestic tourism also recorded a slight decline. A total of 2,170,938 domestic tourist trips were recorded in January 2026, down 1.26 percent compared to the previous month.
The largest number of domestic visitors came from East Java, with 173,855 trips. West Java followed with 54,044 trips, then Jakarta (52,000) and Central Java (49,362).
Hermawan noted that geopolitical tensions, including the conflict between the United States and Iran, could affect Bali’s tourism performance.
He said global geopolitical conditions have the potential to disrupt international flight operations, which are a key factor in supporting Bali’s tourism sector.
Authorities will continue to monitor international developments that may influence travel patterns and connectivity to the island.
