KLUNGKUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – The Bali Provincial Government is preparing a new initiative to manage organic waste by developing a centralized processing facility in Klungkung Regency.
The proposed site is located in the former excavation area (Ex Galian C) in Gunaksa Village, north of the Tukad Unda reservoir. The location has previously been inspected by provincial authorities as part of early planning.
Klungkung Regent I Made Satria confirmed the plan, stating that the facility is still at the proposal stage led by the Bali Governor.
“Yes, there is a plan by the Bali Provincial Government to build an organic waste processing facility in Klungkung. The location has already been reviewed on provincial land north of the reservoir,” he said on Monday (April 6, 2026).
The project is estimated to require an investment of around IDR 400 billion. However, detailed technical aspects of the waste processing system have not yet been disclosed.
“The technical details are not yet available. This is still in the planning stage from the governor,” Satria added.
The Ex Galian C area in Klungkung is a dry land expanse that historically served as a flow path for cold lava deposits following the 1963 eruption of Mount Agung. The land has since been acquired by the provincial government and partially developed for infrastructure projects, including the Tukad Unda reservoir and river normalization.
The new facility is expected to become part of Bali’s broader strategy to address ongoing waste management challenges, particularly in handling organic waste across the island.
Authorities have not yet announced a timeline for construction, but the project reflects increasing efforts to improve waste infrastructure and environmental management in Bali.
