DENPASAR, DEWATA.NEWS – Bali police have stepped up monitoring of foreign nationals on the island following several serious criminal incidents involving foreigners, including a recent kidnapping and mutilation case involving a Ukrainian national.
Authorities say enhanced surveillance is being carried out through the Cakrawasi digital monitoring system, which is used to track and report the presence of foreign nationals in Bali.
Acting Head of Sub-Directorate IV of the Intelligence and Security Directorate (Ditintelkam) of Bali Police, Commissioner Ni Luh Komang Sri Subakti, spoke about the initiative after attending a meeting with the Indonesia Hotel Front Liners Association (HFLA) Bali Chapter in Denpasar on Wednesday (March 11).
Subakti said police are strengthening cooperation with tourism stakeholders to improve oversight of foreign visitors while maintaining security in Bali’s tourism sector.
“Bali is a global tourism destination visited by millions of international tourists each year,” Subakti said.
“The high mobility of foreign nationals contributes positively to economic growth and tourism development. However, it also creates potential risks that must be anticipated together,” she added.
According to Subakti, monitoring foreign nationals cannot be handled solely by law enforcement agencies. It requires cooperation and active participation from multiple sectors, particularly tourism industry workers who interact directly with international visitors.
Police are encouraging tourism operators, especially hotel staff, to use the Cakrawasi website as a technology-based reporting platform to support data collection and monitoring of foreign nationals staying in Bali.
The system is designed to improve coordination between authorities and the tourism sector while enabling faster reporting of suspicious activities involving foreign visitors.
Hotel frontliners are considered important partners in this effort, as they regularly interact with international guests and are often the first point of contact for visitors arriving in Bali.
Authorities believe the initiative will help strengthen the island’s security monitoring system while also ensuring better protection for tourists visiting Bali.
The program also aims to increase public participation in sharing information related to the presence and activities of foreign nationals across the island.
