GIANYAR, DEWATA.NEWS – Bambu Indah Resort in Sayan, Ubud, hosted a curated Earth Hour experience on March 28, 2026, combining sustainability, gastronomy, and cultural elements in a single immersive event.
The resort, founded by Canadian designers John and Cynthia Hardy, has long reflected a philosophy rooted in harmony with nature. Having lived in Bali for over five decades, John Hardy described how the island’s traditional way of life once relied closely on natural resources.
“In the past, people in Bali lived in harmony with nature. Homes were made of bamboo, and food could be picked directly from around the house,” he said.
This philosophy is embedded in Bambu Indah’s design, which features bamboo architecture, natural spring pools, and landscapes integrated with surrounding rice fields and tropical vegetation.
During the Earth Hour event, invited guests were welcomed with house-made fermented kombucha before joining a permaculture discussion led by international consultant Justin Robertshaw. The session highlighted sustainable farming practices and the principles behind the resort’s organic cultivation system.
Guests were then guided through the resort’s organic gardens, where they observed permaculture techniques while sampling garden-inspired appetizers, including fresh greens, grilled lemongrass vegetables, and radishes served in terracotta dishes.
The evening continued with a live acoustic performance by Tritala, accompanying a ten-course plant-based dining experience curated by Michelin-starred chef Alejandro Cancino. The menu featured seasonal ingredients, herbal-infused broths, and plant-based interpretations of classic dishes, ending with desserts inspired by tropical fruits.
Following dinner, participants lit candles across the garden area as part of the Earth Hour observance, creating a reflective atmosphere. The event concluded with a traditional Balinese shadow puppet performance (wayang), blending storytelling, ritual, and cultural expression.
Recognized by international publications for its unique approach to hospitality, Bambu Indah continues to position itself as a destination that integrates environmental awareness with cultural authenticity.
The Earth Hour program highlights growing interest in sustainable tourism experiences in Bali, particularly among international visitors seeking environmentally conscious travel.
