DENPASAR, DEWATA.NEWS – The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency Wilayah III Denpasar (BBMKG Denpasar) has issued an early warning for high sea waves around Bali, with wave heights forecast to reach up to four meters between January 21 and January 24, 2026.
Head of BBMKG Region III, Cahyo Nugroho, said strong winds are expected to affect both northern and southern waters of Bali during this period.
“We urge the public to be alert to the potential for strong winds in the northern and southern waters of Bali,” he said in Denpasar on Tuesday.
Based on synoptic analysis, wind patterns over Bali waters are forecast to move from the southwest to northwest, with speeds reaching up to 30 knots, or approximately 55 kilometers per hour.
Sea waves of up to four meters are expected in several areas, including the southern part of the Bali Strait, Badung Strait, the southern section of the Lombok Strait, and the southern waters of Bali. In northern Bali waters and the northern Lombok Strait, wave heights are forecast to reach up to 2.5 meters.
BBMKG Denpasar also noted that on January 20–21, 2026, sea waves along ferry and boat routes from Padangbai, Sanur, and Kusamba to Nusa Penida are expected to reach around 2.5 meters, accompanied by rainfall and wind speeds of up to 25 knots.
Meanwhile, sea crossings from Padangbai in Karangasem to Lembar, West Nusa Tenggara, are also forecast to experience waves of up to 2.5 meters, with wind speeds potentially reaching 30 knots.
BBMKG emphasized that these wind and wave conditions pose risks to maritime safety. Small fishing boat operators are advised to exercise caution when wind speeds exceed 15 knots, or around 27 kilometers per hour, and wave heights reach 1.25 meters.
