DENPASAR, DEWATA.NEWS – The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued an early warning for high waves in several Bali waters, with wave heights expected to reach up to four meters between December 27 and 30, 2025.

According to the Regional Meteorology Office (BBMKG) Region III in Denpasar, the elevated sea conditions are linked to indirect impacts from tropical disturbance 96S.

“There is an indirect influence from the 96S tropical disturbance,” said BBMKG forecaster Diana Siregar on Friday (December 27).

The warning covers the southern part of the Bali Strait, the southern Lombok Strait, the Badung Strait, and southern Bali waters, where wave heights are forecast to range between 2.5 and 4 meters. Meanwhile, wave heights in the northern Lombok Strait are expected to be lower, at around 1.25 to 2.5 meters.

BMKG also reported strong wind patterns affecting both northern and southern Bali waters. Winds in northern Bali waters are blowing from the southwest to northwest at speeds of up to 25 knots (approximately 46 km/h). Similar wind speeds are forecast in southern Bali waters, with winds coming from the southwest to west.

“We urge the public to remain alert to the potential increase in wind speeds in both northern and southern Bali waters,” Siregar added.

The agency noted that the combination of strong winds and high waves poses risks to maritime activities. Small fishing boats are advised to exercise caution when wind speeds exceed 15 knots and wave heights reach 1.25 meters.

Operators of barges are urged to be alert when winds reach 16 knots with waves of 1.5 meters, while ferry operators should be cautious when wind speeds approach 21 knots and wave heights reach 2.5 meters.

BMKG encourages the public and maritime operators to regularly monitor updated marine weather information through its official website and mobile application, as well as its social media channels.

Previously, BMKG detected the formation of tropical disturbance 96S in the Indian Ocean south of West Nusa Tenggara on December 24, 2025. The latest update indicates that the system currently has a low probability of developing into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours.
