DENPASAR, DEWATA.NEWS – Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) is closely monitoring the development of Tropical Cyclone Seed 93S, currently detected in the Indian Ocean south of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

While the system is forecast to move away from Indonesian territory, BMKG has warned of potential indirect impacts, including heavy rainfall and elevated sea conditions in several regions.

BMKG Head Teuku Faisal Fathani said the indirect effects of 93S could trigger moderate to heavy rainfall across Bali, NTB, and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) over the coming days.

In addition, moderate sea waves ranging from 1.25 to 2.5 meters are expected in the southern waters of East Java to NTT, the southern seas of East Java, as well as the southern sections of the Bali–Lombok–Alas straits.

“We must remain alert to the potential indirect impacts in the form of moderate to heavy rain and higher waves at sea. Preventive measures are important, always follow official BMKG updates, and make safety the top priority. Stay calm, but remain vigilant,” Faisal said on Thursday (11/12).

BMKG analysis shows maximum wind speeds around the system currently reaching 15 knots (around 28 km/h), with a minimum central pressure of 1009 hPa. Observations indicate that convective cloud patterns around 93S remain poorly organized, meaning the system is expected to intensify slowly over the next 24 hours.

BMKG’s Deputy for Meteorology, Guswanto, explained that within the next 24 hours the system is likely to persist while moving slowly southwestward, further away from Indonesia.

Over the next 48 to 72 hours, gradual strengthening is possible as circulation patterns improve, although the system is still forecast to continue moving away from the country.

“Based on our analysis, the system is moving away from Indonesia and is not expected to have a direct impact on land areas,” Guswanto said.

Cyclone Seed 93S was first identified on 11 December 2025 at 07:00 WIB, with its circulation center located around 12.0° South latitude and 117.0° East longitude. It has since entered the Area of Monitoring (AoM) of the Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre (TCWC) Jakarta.

BMKG’s Director of Public Meteorology, Andri Ramdhani, urged local governments, communities, and the media to work together to ensure accurate and reliable information reaches the public, particularly in potentially affected areas.

Coastal communities and regions prone to flooding and landslides are advised to increase preparedness, while maritime, fisheries, and sea transport operators are encouraged to adjust activities based on official high-wave advisories.

“Avoid spreading information that may cause panic. The public should rely on official BMKG channels to ensure preventive measures are taken effectively. Public calmness is a key element of collective preparedness,” Andri said.

BMKG stated it will continue providing real-time updates on the development of Tropical Cyclone Seed 93S, including high-wave warnings, daily weather forecasts, and extreme weather alerts. The public is encouraged to regularly monitor official BMKG channels to support timely mitigation efforts and ensure safety.
