KLUNGKUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – A tourist from the Czech Republic was rescued after being swept by strong waves at Kelingking Beach, Nusa Penida, on Friday (9/1/2026). The victim, identified as Martello Romani (49), survived the incident.

Nusa Penida Police Chief Kompol I Ketut Kesuma Jaya said weather conditions at the time were generally clear, but sea waves in the area were strong and unpredictable.

“Suddenly, a large wave came in and swept the victim off his feet, placing him in an emergency situation,” Kesuma Jaya said when confirmed on Friday evening.

The incident was witnessed by lifeguards stationed at Kelingking Beach, who immediately moved to evacuate the tourist to the shoreline. First aid was provided on site with assistance from local residents.

Due to the beach’s steep and rugged terrain, which poses high risks during evacuation, the lifeguard team coordinated with the Nusa Penida Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) and Nusa Penida Police for further assistance. At around 18:00 WITA, Romani was successfully evacuated from the beach area, located in Bunga Mekar Village, Nusa Penida District.

He was subsequently taken to Griya Medika Clinic for medical treatment.

Kesuma Jaya urged visitors to remain vigilant when engaging in activities at coastal tourist areas, particularly at beaches known for strong waves.

“We advise tourists to always follow safety instructions, pay close attention to natural conditions and sea waves, and avoid staying too close to the shoreline, especially in areas with powerful waves such as Kelingking Beach,” he said.
