GIANYAR, DEWATA.NEWS – Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) officers in Gianyar Regency conducted a routine operation in the Ubud tourism area, detaining eight individuals categorized as beggars during a public order sweep on Sunday (Feb 22).
The operation was carried out by Satpol PP personnel assigned to Ubud under backup deployment (BKO), along with a detection team. According to field data, those detained consisted of four adults and four children.
Authorities stated that their presence was considered disruptive to public order and visitor comfort in one of Bali’s most popular tourist destinations.
Head of Satpol PP, Fire and Rescue, and Emergency Services of Gianyar Regency, Putu Yudanegara, confirmed the operation and said the enforcement action was conducted in accordance with local public order regulations.
“It is correct that today our personnel in the Ubud area secured eight beggars, consisting of four adults and four children. This measure was taken in line with the Regional Regulation on Public Order to ensure the comfort of residents and tourists,” he said.
Following the operation, the individuals were taken to the Gianyar Satpol PP office for registration and further guidance.
Yudanegara also urged both residents and visitors not to give money to beggars on the streets, as such actions may encourage the continued presence of street begging in tourism areas.
Authorities said routine monitoring will continue as part of efforts to maintain Ubud’s reputation as a world-class tourism destination.
