Residents and emergency responders carry out cooling efforts after eight UMKM kiosks were destroyed by fire along the Jungutbatu coastal area in Nusa Penida, Klungkung, on Friday afternoon.

KLUNGKUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – A fire destroyed eight UMKM (micro, small, and medium enterprise) kiosks, along with a public toilet facility, on the coastal area of Jungutbatu Village, Nusa Penida, on Friday afternoon (December 26, 2025). The facilities were owned by the Klungkung Regency Tourism Office and had not yet been put into use.

The incident occurred at around 17:00 WITA. Due to the building’s structure, which largely consisted of wood, the fire spread rapidly and completely engulfed the kiosks located along the shoreline.

Acting Head of the Klungkung Tourism Office I Gusti Agung Putra Mahajaya confirmed that the structures destroyed included UMKM kiosks and a toilet facility. “The buildings that burned were UMKM kiosks and a toilet,” he said on Sunday (December 28, 2025).

According to Mahajaya, the kiosks were constructed in 2024 using Special Allocation Funds (DAK) and were intended to support local UMKM activities in Jungutbatu Village. The facilities were planned to be rented out to local residents but had not yet been operational at the time of the fire.

“Just last week, an appraisal team was brought in to determine the rental price. The results had not yet been finalized,” he explained.

The buildings were designed using wooden materials to reduce corrosion in the coastal environment and were fitted with onduline roofing. These materials are believed to have contributed to the rapid spread of the fire.

Police officers have conducted an initial examination at the scene, and early findings suggest the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit. The incident resulted in an estimated material loss of approximately IDR 350 million.

“For further action, we are still waiting for the results of the police investigation,” Mahajaya added.

The incident has raised concerns about infrastructure safety in coastal development areas, particularly for facilities intended to support local economic activity.
