BADUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – A joint search and rescue (SAR) team successfully evacuated a crew member suffering from a heart condition from a vessel in Bali waters on Friday (Feb 27, 2026).
The medical evacuation (medevac) was carried out using a rigid inflatable boat (RIB) deployed from the waters near Benoa Port. The patient was identified as Carl Mauricio Montevirgen (45), a Filipino national and crew member of the vessel KOOL ICE.
The interception point with the ship was set at coordinates 8°46.351’S – 115°14.884’E.
During the transfer from the vessel to the rescue boat, the team encountered challenges due to rough sea conditions. Despite strong waves, the evacuation was completed safely.
After being transferred to the RIB, Montevirgen was transported to the Navigation District (Disnav) Pier at Benoa Port, where he underwent an initial health screening by officers from the Port Health Quarantine Office.
He was then referred to Siloam Hospital Denpasar for further medical treatment.
Field Coordinator Arif Yuliyanto confirmed that the operation proceeded without major complications.
“The operation went smoothly. The patient has been successfully medevac’d and transported to Siloam Hospital for further medical care,” he said.
The SAR operation involved multiple agencies, including the Denpasar SAR Office Rescue Team, the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL), the National Police Water and Air Unit (Polairud Mabes Polri), Bali Regional Police Water Unit (Ditpolairud Polda Bali), Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) Benoa Port, Benoa Port Immigration Office, the Port Health Quarantine Office (BBKK), medical personnel from Siloam Hospital, and the vessel’s agent PT Trans Cakrawala.
Following the successful evacuation and initial medical handling, the SAR operation was officially closed, and all participating units returned to their respective duties.
