KLUNGKUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – Flooding inundated a section of roadway on Ceningan Island, part of Lembongan Village in Nusa Penida District, on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, disrupting daily activities for residents and tourists.

The floodwaters covered the road from around 12:30 am WITA following heavy overnight rainfall across Nusa Penida. In some areas, water levels reached knee height, forcing several residents to use small boats to cross the submerged road.

Nusa Penida Police Chief I Ketut Kusuma Jaya said the worst flooding occurred in Banjar Amben Tiing. He explained that intense rainfall caused water levels to rise rapidly, while blocked and covered drainage culverts prevented proper water flow.

“These conditions disrupted traffic, and vehicles were unable to pass normally,” Kusuma Jaya said.

The flooding significantly affected mobility on the island, particularly along routes commonly used by local residents and visitors. Despite the disruption, authorities confirmed that there were no casualties.

Police officers, together with related agencies, continue to monitor the situation and have taken initial mitigation measures to reduce further impact.

“As part of the response, blocked culverts have been dismantled and cleared to restore normal water flow,” he added.

Authorities have urged residents and visitors in Nusa Penida to remain alert, as extreme weather conditions are still possible in the coming days. Travelers are advised to monitor local conditions and allow extra time when moving between locations on the island.
