DENPASAR, DEWATA.NEWS – Flooding struck the Bumi Ayu Road area in Sanur on Sunday (December 28, 2025), forcing the evacuation of several foreign and Indonesian residents after heavy rainfall inundated low-lying neighborhoods.
The flooding was caused by continuous rain combined with the area’s lower elevation compared to the main road, while local drainage systems were reported to be ineffective. Water levels reached knee to waist height in several locations.
Operator of the Denpasar Emergency Operations Center (Pusdalops), Putu Darma Putra Setyawan, said evacuation efforts were carried out at two main points along Bumi Ayu Road.
The first evacuation took place on Bumi Ayu III Street, where nine foreign nationals were assisted to safety. “The nine foreign nationals consisted of three men, three children, and three women, including one woman who is pregnant,” he said.
Floodwater in this area reached knee height for adults, and evacuees were moved to Bumi Ayu IV Street, which was not affected by flooding.
Evacuations then continued at Bumi Ayu Gang V, Ketut Villa Sanur. In this location, five people were evacuated, including four Russian nationals and one Indonesian citizen. They included one adult male, two children, one female foreign national, and one Indonesian resident.
“In Bumi Ayu Gang V, water levels reached waist height for adults, and the evacuation team moved residents to Bumi Ayu IV Street where conditions were dry,” Setyawan explained.
In addition to evacuations, the Denpasar Disaster Management Agency (BPBD Denpasar) deployed response teams to pump floodwater from affected homes. One of the water removal operations was conducted at a residence on Bypass Ngurah Rai Road No. 259 in Sanur.
The flooding followed similar conditions reported the previous day, when parts of Bumi Ayu Road were also inundated after heavy rainfall. Authorities continue to monitor the area and urged residents to remain alert during periods of intense rain.
