The deceased was identified as Claude Denis Genin, 82, a French citizen from Bar-le-Duc. He was staying in Room 8186 and had checked in on January 29, 2026, with a scheduled stay until February 26, 2026.

Police said the sequence of events began on Friday afternoon (January 30, 2026), at around 17:30 WITA. CCTV footage showed the victim sitting on a sofa in the hotel lobby near the Bitter and Bright Coffee area, appearing physically weak.
Shortly afterward, he stood up and walked toward the front desk but suddenly collapsed for no clear reason. Front desk staff and the duty manager immediately provided assistance. According to information from hotel staff, the victim was offered transport to a hospital but declined.
“The victim stated that he had a history of low blood pressure and felt dizzy before the incident,” the police spokesperson said.
An initial examination revealed an open wound on the victim’s right elbow and a cut on one finger of his left hand. Hotel staff provided first aid and drinking water before escorting him back to his room to rest.
The following morning, on Saturday (January 31, 2026), hotel staff attempted to contact the guest by room telephone at around 09:03 WITA but received no response. The victim also did not appear for breakfast. Further attempts to reach him later in the day were unsuccessful.
Growing concerned, at around 14:40 WITA, three hotel staff members, the manager on duty, a security officer, and a guest relations supervisor, decided to check the room despite a “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door.
Medical personnel from a nearby clinic who were called to the scene arrived shortly afterward and confirmed that the victim had died. “Medical officers stated that the victim was already deceased,” police said.
Officers from Denpasar Police conducted a crime scene examination and documented the position of the body. The victim was found lying on his back on the bed, wearing only a patterned shirt and no trousers. His head was on a pillow facing south, he was wearing glasses, and both legs were touching the floor in a partially bent position.
Police stated that no signs of violence were found on the body. “There were no indications of sharp or blunt force injuries,” the spokesperson said.
Personal belongings found in the room included a wallet, two mobile phones, a power bank, a wristwatch, and the victim’s passport. Several types of medication were also discovered, including laxatives, antidepressants, anti-anxiety medication, pain relievers, and other prescribed drugs.
Kuta Police received the report and secured the location, conducted further examination, and gathered witness statements. The body was evacuated by ambulance to RSUP Prof. Dr. I.G.N. Ngoerah Hospital in Denpasar for further procedures.
Based on witness accounts and the results of the on-site examination, police concluded that the victim is strongly believed to have died due to an existing medical condition.
