GIANYAR, DEWATA.NEWS – Gianyar Police have officially launched a foreign language training program for their personnel in 2026, starting with English language courses aimed at improving communication with international visitors.
The initiative was introduced in response to Gianyar’s status as a major international tourism destination. Gianyar Police Chief AKBP Chandra C. Kesuma said the program is intended to ensure officers are able to communicate confidently with foreign tourists during daily duties.
“I do not want my personnel to avoid foreign tourists simply because they cannot communicate. At the very least, they should be able to speak basic English,” AKBP Chandra said recently.
The English training program officially began on Wednesday (7/1/2026) and was held at the Catur Prasetya Conference Hall at Gianyar Police Headquarters. The session ran from 09:00 to 11:00 WITA and was attended by 64 personnel from Gianyar Police and its district police units, along with senior officers, including the Head of Human Resources Division.
The program was formally opened by Gianyar Deputy Police Chief Kompol I Putu Diah Kurniawandari, who emphasized the importance of English proficiency in supporting police duties in tourism areas.
“Gianyar is a tourism region that receives a high number of foreign visitors. Therefore, every police officer needs to improve their English skills to provide better public services, especially for international tourists,” she stated.
She also expressed hope that the training would be conducted consistently and followed seriously by participants, despite the demanding nature of police duties.
AKBP Chandra added that effective communication plays a key role in building public trust, particularly in regions with a high volume of foreign visitors.
“Improving English language skills among Gianyar Police personnel is essential to ensure human-centered, professional, and internationally standardized services. With better communication, the presence of police among the public, especially foreign tourists, will be more meaningful,” he said.
The training sessions are led by instructors I Nengah Budiarta and Ni Kadek Ari Susanti from Monarch Campus Gianyar. The curriculum focuses on basic to practical communication skills relevant to on-duty situations commonly faced by police officers in the field.
