GIANYAR, DEWATA.NEWS – A fire broke out at Grand Sehati Hotel and Spa on Jalan Monkey Forest, Padang Tegal Kelod, Ubud, on Sunday morning, 14 December 2025, leaving one person injured and causing damage to a hotel room.

Authorities said the fire is suspected to have been triggered by a leak from a 50-kilogram LPG gas cylinder. The incident occurred while the victim, identified as Fhilifus Neri Alfianus, arrived at the hotel to deliver and install the gas cylinder in the hotel’s gas storage area.

According to Ubud Police Chief Kompol Wayan Putra Antara, a gas leak was detected during the cylinder replacement process.

“Based on witness statements, a gas leak occurred during the cylinder replacement. A few minutes later, the victim was heard shouting for help from inside the gas storage room,” Antara said on Sunday.

Two witnesses, along with hotel staff, immediately went to the location and found the fire already burning. The Gianyar Fire and Rescue Department and Ubud Police were then contacted for emergency response.

“Personnel from Ubud Police and two fire engines arrived at the scene at around 9:55 a.m. local time and immediately carried out firefighting efforts. The fire was fully extinguished at approximately 10:40 a.m.,” Antara added.

As a result of the incident, Alfianus suffered serious burn injuries to both legs and his left hand, with burns estimated to cover around 35 percent of his body. The 27-year-old victim was reported to be conscious and is currently receiving intensive treatment at Payangan Hospital.

The fire also caused damage to one hotel room and its contents. Police said the exact amount of material losses has not yet been determined, and no official damage report has been filed so far.

The victim’s family is expected to coordinate further with authorities and is scheduled to visit Ubud Police Station on Monday, 15 December 2025.

Antara urged residents and business operators to exercise greater caution when handling LPG cylinders and to strictly follow safety procedures to prevent similar incidents.
