BADUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – Flooding submerged Jalan Dewi Sri in Legian, Kuta, Badung Regency, early Tuesday morning (Feb 24, 2026), following hours of continuous heavy rain.
Water levels began rising at around 04:00 WITA and continued to increase until the entire roadway was covered. By morning, floodwaters had reached waist height for an adult, forcing authorities to close access from both the northern and southern ends of the street as vehicles could no longer pass. As of midday, the area remained paralyzed.
A local resident, Made, said the rain had been falling since around 03:00 WITA.
“Heavy rain started in the early morning around 3 a.m., and the water began rising shortly after. The rain did not stop,” he said on location.
Although the road had previously been elevated by the local government to reduce flooding risk, water still inundated nearby shops and restaurants. Water pumps were activated at several points to accelerate drainage into nearby rivers.
Similar flooding was reported on Jalan Campuhan, Jalan Dewi Sri IV, Grand Dewi Sri, and Jalan Nakula V. Motorists were forced to turn back as the usual route toward Imam Bonjol, Sunset Road, and Jalan Raya Kuta could not be accessed via Jalan Dewi Sri.
Kadek Soma, a travel driver, described the traffic impact.
“If you want to go toward Imam Bonjol, you have to turn back to Sunset Road. It looks like it will take time before it can be reopened,” he said.
High water discharge from Tukad Mati river slowed the recession of floodwaters. Emergency personnel were deployed to manage traffic and evacuate residents and tourists trapped in residential areas and accommodation facilities.
Head of Emergency and Logistics at the Badung Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), I Ketut Murdika, said joint teams were prioritizing evacuation efforts and flood response.
“At the moment, BPBD is focusing on evacuation. For other handling such as fallen trees, the Environmental Agency has also deployed teams to accelerate response,” he said.
A minimarket employee, Nafiq Rizky, said water began entering the store around 04:00 WITA and worsened by 06:00 WITA, forcing several businesses to close.
“When flooding like this happens, the store has to close because water enters the building,” he said.
As of publication, there were no reports of fatalities. Traffic at Simpang Dewa Ruci and in the main Kuta–Legian tourism area was reported to be passable.
