TABANAN, DEWATA.NEWS – Farmers from the Jatiluwih Rice Terraces in Penebel continued dismantling metal sheets and black plastic coverings from rice fields on Tuesday, January 6, marking the second day of enforcement following a mediation meeting facilitated by Tabanan Regent I Komang Gede Sanjaya a day earlier.
The continued removal was monitored on site by Tabanan Police Chief I Putu Bayu Pati, along with police personnel, to ensure the situation remained orderly. The monitoring also followed up on ongoing issues involving 13 accommodation businesses identified as violating green zone regulations within the Jatiluwih area.
Prior to field activities, the police chief attended a coordination meeting with the 13 accommodation owners, village officials, and traditional leaders at a local restaurant in Jatiluwih. During the meeting, Bayu Pati emphasized that police presence was solely to maintain security and public order, and to ensure the resolution process proceeds peacefully.
He said the issue of the 13 accommodations had been discussed with the regent and the Tabanan regional secretary, adding that the local government is committed to finding a solution so the matter does not drag on or negatively impact tourism.
“The government will certainly work to find the best possible solution,” Bayu Pati said.
During the same meeting, Jatiluwih traditional village head I Wayan Yasa reported community concerns related to the burning of rice husks, which he said had already been addressed by the Tabanan Police. Authorities confirmed they would continue mediating related parties and urged the removal of social media posts that could escalate tensions.
Jatiluwih village head I Nengah Kartika also reminded residents to be responsible in using social media and to prioritize dialogue and consensus when resolving disputes.
Following the meeting, farmers resumed removing the remaining barriers from the rice fields. Officials confirmed that the entire process took place safely and without incident, as authorities continue efforts to restore stability and protect Jatiluwih’s status as a cultural landscape and tourism destination.
