KLUNGKUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – Klungkung Regent I Made Satria met with senior officials from Indonesia’s Ministry of Public Works in Jakarta on Wednesday (February 19, 2026) to discuss urgent coastal protection measures as parts of the regency face severe shoreline erosion.

The meeting was attended by Klungkung Regional Secretary Anak Agung Gede Lesmana, Head of the Public Works and Housing Agency (PUPRPKP) I Made Jati Laksana, and Director of Water Resources Systems and Strategy at the Ministry of Public Works, Fikri Abdurrachman. Representatives from the Bali Penida River Basin Agency (BWS Bali Penida), led by Gunawan Suntoro, were also present.

The discussion focused on worsening coastal abrasion in several areas of Klungkung, which has caused significant shoreline retreat and damage to public infrastructure.

Impacted areas include Monggalan Beach in Kusamba Village and sections of the regency road and pedestrian access leading to Banjar Nyuh Port in Ped Village. The affected road forms part of the National Tourism Strategic Area (KSPN) of Nusa Penida and is reported to be heavily eroded and at risk of being cut off.

According to local authorities, the abrasion has damaged salt farming land, road structures, electricity networks, and residential areas in multiple locations.

Regent Satria emphasized that the impact extends beyond physical infrastructure, affecting economic and social activities in the region.

“Handling this coastal abrasion is urgent because the damaged infrastructure serves as a main access route for residents, as well as a logistics and tourism corridor. We hope the central government, through the Ministry of Public Works, can take sustainable action within its authority,” Satria said on Thursday (February 19, 2026).

As part of the regency’s commitment, Satria formally submitted a proposal outlining coastal protection measures to the Directorate General of Water Resources.

Through this coordination, the Klungkung administration aims to strengthen collaboration between local and central governments to implement planned and sustainable mitigation measures.

Authorities hope the initiative will protect communities, safeguard critical infrastructure, and support the long-term sustainability of tourism and the local economy.
