KLUNGKUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – The Klungkung Regency Government has prepared preventive measures to reduce the risk of recurring floods at Crystal Bay Beach, Nusa Penida, following flooding that affected the area earlier this rainy season.
Klungkung Regent I Made Satria said the steps were discussed during an on-site inspection of the river flow near Crystal Bay on Thursday (December 18, 2025).
The previous flooding, described as “runoff flooding,” carried thick mud, fine sand, small stones, branches, and wood debris from nearby hills down to the beach area.
According to Satria, the local government is coordinating with the Klungkung Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (PUPR) and the Klungkung Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) to implement technical solutions aimed at preventing similar incidents during future rainy seasons.
“Today, together with the Klungkung PUPR Agency and the Head of BPBD, we inspected the site. I have instructed the Public Works Agency to construct a diversion channel so the river flow can go directly to the sea,” Satria said.
The proposed diversion is expected to help control water flow during heavy rainfall and prevent flooding from spilling into the coastal area, including small beachfront businesses operated by local vendors.
“Going forward, we will allocate budget for preventive measures so flooding does not inundate the vendors’ stalls again during the rainy season,” he added.
Local authorities hope the planned intervention will improve drainage efficiency around Crystal Bay, one of Nusa Penida’s popular tourist beaches, while minimizing disruption to both residents and visitors during periods of intense rainfall.
