GIANYAR, DEWATA.NEWS – Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds triggered a landslide near The Yoga Barn on Jalan Sukma Kesuma, Peliatan Village, Ubud, Gianyar Regency, on Tuesday (Feb 24) at approximately 09:00 WITA.

The landslide caused the eastern retaining wall of the area to collapse, blocking access to the road leading to SD Negeri 2 Peliatan elementary school. Soil and debris from the collapsed structure also struck two nearby buildings, identified as a toilet facility and a storage room.

Ubud Police Chief, Commissioner I Wayan Putra Antara, confirmed the incident. He said prolonged heavy rainfall over the past several days had destabilized the soil, causing the retaining wall to fail under pressure.

“There were no fatalities in this incident. However, two buildings were affected and road access is temporarily blocked by landslide material,” he said.

Material losses from the incident are estimated at IDR 50 million.

Police have coordinated with the school administration to report the situation to the Gianyar Regency Education Office for further handling, particularly to ensure that teaching and learning activities are not disrupted.

Ubud Police have also coordinated with the Gianyar Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). However, clearing operations have not yet begun due to ongoing rain and strong winds at the location.

Authorities are urging the public to avoid the area, as the risk of additional landslides remains. The surrounding zone continues to be secured to prevent further incidents.
