BADUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – Prolonged heavy rainfall across southern Bali since Sunday (Feb 22) has caused flooding in the Dewi Sri area of Legian, with water levels reaching knee height in some locations and disrupting traffic on several roads.

The flooding was triggered by rising water levels in Tukad Mati river, located west of the area, which overflowed into nearby residential zones. Several drainage channels were unable to contain the surge, causing water to spread onto main roads.

Field observations on Tuesday morning (Feb 24, 2026) showed floodwaters between 30 and 60 centimeters still covering sections of roads, including Jalan Nakula V in Legian. Many motorcyclists attempted to pass through the flooded streets, with several vehicles stalling mid-route.

“It’s been raining nonstop since last night. The water started rising quickly and by around 3 a.m. the area was flooded. The level was quite high,” a local resident said on Tuesday.

Several tourists staying in nearby villas were evacuated by property management after becoming stranded overnight. Joint emergency personnel were also deployed at multiple points to assist with evacuation efforts. Light rain was still falling at the time of reporting.

The Badung Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (PUPR) deployed more than a dozen portable pumps, along with main pumps at Tukad Mati, early Tuesday morning to accelerate water drainage.

“We’re prioritizing evacuation first,” said a villa manager while escorting Australian guests who had been trapped by the floodwaters.

The Badung Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has also sent personnel to monitor the most affected locations. Pump operations continue in an effort to remove standing water and redirect it back into Tukad Mati.

As of this report, weather conditions in the Kuta area remain overcast with intermittent drizzle. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes and avoid the Legian area until floodwaters fully recede.
