DENPASAR, DEWATA.NEWS – A 35-year-old Nigerian national has been demanded a two-year prison sentence by prosecutors after undergoing a series of evidentiary hearings at the Denpasar District Court.
The defendant, identified as Ifeanyi Ronel Okoronkwo, was declared guilty by the public prosecutor, Ni Made Desi Mega Pratiwi, during a court session on Thursday (Feb 12). The panel of judges was chaired by Mahyudin Igo.
Prosecutors stated that the defendant was proven to have used narcotics for personal consumption.
In response to the sentencing demand, the defendant, through his legal counsel I Gusti Agung Prami Paramita and team, said he would submit a formal defense plea in the next hearing.
According to the indictment, Okoronkwo was arrested by officers from the Narcotics Unit of Denpasar Police on the side of Jalan Serangan, in front of E Luxury Suites Apartment in Kerobokan Kelod Village, Badung.
A day before his arrest, on September 28, 2025, the defendant allegedly received methamphetamine, locally known as sabu, and marijuana from an individual identified as Putra, who is currently listed as wanted (DPO). The handover reportedly took place at Villa Seminyak Loft 360 on Jalan Dewi Saraswati III, Seminyak, North Kuta District.
The narcotics included 0.02 grams net (0.12 grams gross) of methamphetamine and 0.55 grams net (0.88 grams gross) of dried marijuana leaves, seeds, and stems.
Prosecutors said the substances were then brought toward the apartment. During the journey, police intercepted and attempted to arrest the defendant. He reportedly tried to flee and discard the evidence, but officers succeeded in securing him.
Due to the presence of local residents around the arrest location, officers moved the defendant into the courtyard of E Luxury Suites Apartment, where a further search was conducted. The methamphetamine and marijuana were subsequently recovered.
The court proceedings are ongoing, with the defense scheduled to present its plea before the judges issue a verdict.
