BADUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – Fifteen out of 33 tenant facilities in The Nusa Dua have begun using clean water produced through seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) technology operated by ITDC Nusantara Utilitas, as part of efforts to strengthen water security in the premium tourism area.

Of the 15 tenants currently connected to the SWRO system, 11 are large hotels. ITDC Nusantara Utilitas (ITDC NU) is targeting a full transition, with all water demand in The Nusa Dua area expected to be supplied internally through the desalination system in the future.

At present, the SWRO facility produces approximately 3,000 to 4,000 cubic meters of clean water per day. According to ITDC NU President Director A.A. Istri Ratna Dewi, SWRO technology converts seawater into potable water and plays a key role in reducing reliance on groundwater and freshwater sources.

“SWRO is a concrete step to strengthen water resilience in the area while reducing pressure on groundwater,” Ratna Dewi said on Sunday, January 25, 2026. “Through safe and carefully managed technology, we ensure a stable clean water supply for tenants and visitors without compromising environmental sustainability.”

She explained that the development of SWRO reflects the company’s commitment to providing a sustainable water supply for an international-standard tourism destination such as The Nusa Dua.

ITDC NU’s authority over water management is limited to areas within The Nusa Dua complex, where it holds special zone management rights. Water services outside the area remain under the jurisdiction of the regional water utility, PDAM.

Currently, the distribution of SWRO-produced water is being carried out in stages. Several hotels in the area previously relied on their own water sources, including groundwater, and had existing supply arrangements. However, ITDC NU aims to gradually consolidate all water supply under its internal system.

“Our target is that, in the future, 100 percent of water in The Nusa Dua area will be supplied by ITDC NU,” Ratna Dewi said. “We want water quality inside the area to be distinct from outside. Continuity, quality, and quantity are our top priorities.”
