KLUNGKUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – A fire broke out at a garbage pile in the hills of Banjar Sental Kangin, Ped Village, Nusa Penida, on Thursday night (April 9), briefly causing concern among nearby residents as flames grew significantly.

The incident was first reported around 7:00 PM WITA on land owned by a local resident, located west of The Farm area. The burning material was identified as a pile of ceremonial waste originating from Pura Penataran Ped.

Klungkung Police spokesperson Iptu I Dewa Nyoman Alit Purnawibawa said officers from Nusa Penida Police immediately responded to the scene after receiving reports from the public.

“The fire involved a pile of ceremonial waste from Pura Penataran Ped,” he confirmed on Friday (April 10).

By around 9:00 PM WITA, the flames had intensified and reached a height comparable to nearby electricity poles, prompting residents to alert authorities, including firefighters.

A local resident, I Wayan Indra Yudistira, reported the incident to police and emergency services as the fire continued to spread.

Firefighters and police worked to contain the blaze, which was eventually fully extinguished at approximately 10:55 PM WITA.

No injuries or material losses were reported in the incident. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.

“The case is still under investigation to establish the cause of the fire,” Alit added.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns over waste management practices, particularly the handling of ceremonial materials in Bali’s coastal and island regions, which can pose fire risks if not properly managed.
