BULELENG, DEWATA.NEWS – Tourism activities at Old Buleleng Harbor have been temporarily suspended after strong winds and high waves damaged the end section of the pier, raising safety concerns for visitors and local vendors.

The pier and its floating restaurant have been officially closed since Monday (January 12, 2026), after the outer end of the structure collapsed following repeated wave impacts. Authorities halted all activities in the area as extreme weather conditions continue to affect northern Bali.

Head of the Buleleng Tourism Office, Gede Dody Sukma Oktiva Askara, said on Friday (January 16) that the closure is a preventive measure to avoid further risks. The damaged section was commonly used by residents for fishing. The collapse occurred early Monday morning and became clearly visible later that day.

“We are concerned the damage could spread to other parts of the pier if it continues to be used. Safety is our main priority. Until weather conditions improve, activities at Old Buleleng Harbor are temporarily stopped,” Dody said.

Although the floating restaurant structure appears visually intact, it has also been closed because it is located within the same area. Officials said this decision was taken to prevent potential accidents due to unstable sea conditions.

The Tourism Office has coordinated with Singaraja City Police, which has installed police lines and warning signs around the pier to restrict public access during the closure.

The suspension will remain in effect until weather conditions improve and a technical assessment confirms that the pier is safe for use. Current extreme weather has also prevented repair work from being carried out in the near term.

In addition, rough sea conditions have affected marine tourism activities in the region. Dolphin-watching tours, a popular attraction in Buleleng waters, have also been temporarily halted. “We have informed ASITA so that dolphin tour packages are not sold for now, as weather conditions are not suitable,” Dody added.

Local authorities continue to monitor weather developments and advise visitors to follow official updates before planning coastal or marine activities in northern Bali.
