BADUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – Marine police in Badung have increased patrols along coastal areas as extreme weather conditions raise the risk of sea accidents involving residents and tourists.
Head of the Water and Air Police Unit (Satpolairud) of Badung Police, AKP I Nyoman Sutanaya, accompanied by Public Relations officer Aiptu Ni Nyoman Ayu Inastuti, said on Wednesday (February 18) that officers have conducted intensified monitoring over the past week.
Authorities are urging both domestic and international visitors to remain cautious, as weather conditions can change rapidly.
“We consistently remind visitors to be careful when swimming in the sea. We are working together with Balawista Badung lifeguards to install red flags in areas where marine accidents frequently occur,” Sutanaya said.
He noted that strong currents along Bali’s southern beaches pose particular risks. While such conditions are often favored by surfers, they can be dangerous for swimmers.
According to police observations, many sea accidents involve elderly visitors experiencing leg cramps while swimming. Authorities also highlighted concerns about tourists entering the water while intoxicated, which significantly increases the risk of drowning.
Routine patrols have been carried out at several beaches, including Petitenget Beach in North Kuta District. Officers approach beachgoers directly to provide safety advisories and encourage compliance with posted warning signs, especially during unstable weather.
In addition to monitoring water activities, police are also supervising parking areas to prevent crimes such as motorcycle theft and the loss of personal belongings.
“We are present to ensure a sense of security for residents and tourists, while reminding everyone to stay alert to weather conditions and safeguard their belongings,” Sutanaya added.
Authorities emphasized that coastal safety remains a priority during periods of strong winds and shifting sea conditions, particularly in high-traffic tourist areas of Badung.
