GIANYAR, DEWATA.NEWS – A Russian national was found dead at a villa in the Bentuyung Sakti area of Ubud on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, prompting a police investigation that has so far found no indication of criminal activity.
The deceased was identified as Titov Roman, 41, who had been staying at the villa for approximately eight months. Ubud Police Chief I Wayan Putra Antara said authorities received the report at around 11:45 a.m. WITA.
“After receiving the report, officers immediately went to the scene to conduct an initial investigation and collect witness statements. Based on the preliminary examination, no signs of violence were found on the victim’s body,” Putra Antara said.
According to police, the incident began on Monday night, January 26, at around 9:30 p.m. WITA, when a witness identified as Velodina Ekaterina heard the victim shouting from his room.
Another witness, Trubnikov Ilia, checked on the victim and found him sitting cross-legged in what appeared to be a yoga-like position, wearing only a towel. At that time, the victim was still alive and no suspicious circumstances were observed.
Concern arose the following morning at around 9:30 a.m. WITA when the room’s lights were still on. Upon checking, the witness found the victim lying face down with crossed legs, and parts of his body had turned bluish. The incident was then reported to the villa management, who contacted the police and local health authorities.
A medical team from Ubud I Community Health Center arrived at the scene at approximately 12:30 p.m. WITA and confirmed the victim had died. The external examination indicated cardiac arrest, with no pulse, unresponsive pupils, and signs of livor mortis and rigor mortis. No visible injuries or signs of physical violence were found.
“The initial assessment suggests the victim died from cardiac arrest. However, the exact cause of death is still pending further medical examination,” Putra Antara said.
Police secured several personal belongings for investigative purposes, including the victim’s passport, mobile phone, credit cards, and medications. The body was transported to Ari Canti Mas Hospital at around 2:24 p.m. WITA while authorities await further instructions from the family.
Ubud Police stated that the case is currently being treated as a non-criminal death. Nevertheless, investigators will continue coordinating with medical authorities, and further procedures such as a forensic examination or autopsy may be conducted if required to determine the definitive cause of death.
