DENPASAR, DEWATA.NEWS – Indonesia has launched a new milestone in its healthcare transformation with the groundbreaking of the country’s first international fertility center in the Sanur Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Bali.

The project is led by state-owned enterprise InJourney and marks a major step in positioning The Sanur as an emerging international health and wellness destination.

The facility is being developed by InJourney’s subsidiary, PT Hotel Indonesia Natour (InJourney Hospitality), in partnership with Alpha IVF Group, a leading fertility clinic network from Malaysia. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on a 6,343-square-meter site within the SEZ.

Developed in collaboration with PT Alpha IVF and SPOG Bali (ASPOBA), the center will offer In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), fertility treatment programs, and comprehensive women’s and children’s healthcare services. Operations are targeted to begin in mid-2027.

InJourney President Director Maya Watono said the project is a significant marker in strengthening The Sanur’s position in global medical tourism.

“The establishment of this IVF center will be the first premier fertility facility in the Sanur SEZ, reinforcing The Sanur as an international health and wellness destination,” Maya said in a press statement on Saturday, 6 December 2025.

She noted that the transformation of The Sanur is expected to reduce Indonesia’s reliance on overseas medical services, an outflow estimated at IDR 86 trillion annually, while potentially contributing an additional IDR 19 trillion to national revenue.

“Our vision is to reduce dependence on healthcare abroad. The Sanur’s contribution to national GDP is projected to curb the IDR 86 trillion outflow and increase state revenue by around IDR 19 trillion,” she added.

Developed with international standards, The Sanur aims to integrate modern science, traditional values, and tourism within a unified ecosystem that supports both Bali’s and Indonesia’s economic growth.

The wider development also includes plans for an International Medical Facility to address the growing demand from Indonesians seeking specialized treatment overseas.

Christine Hutabarat, President Director of InJourney Hospitality, emphasized that the fertility center reflects InJourney’s commitment to delivering world-class health tourism.

“This is a breakthrough for thousands of Indonesians seeking quality fertility care. Our collaboration with a top international brand, supported by advanced technology, high-quality medicine, and foreign medical expertise, demonstrates our commitment to building a global-standard health destination in Indonesia,” she said.

Christine added that the involvement of Alpha IVF will enhance The Sanur’s appeal for both international visitors and domestic patients. Alpha IVF was selected through a competitive process to ensure that only world-class healthcare operators join the development.

Construction will progress following the fulfillment of initial requirements, with commercial operations targeted within 18 months of the agreement taking effect.
