BADUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – Flooding continued to affect several areas in Denpasar City and Badung Regency on Sunday afternoon, 14 December 2025, with water levels in some locations reaching waist height and forcing residents to be evacuated using rubber boats.
Monitoring on Sunday showed the most severe flooding along Jalan Kunti II in Seminyak, Kuta, a busy tourism area. Floodwaters were also still inundating Widuri Permai residential complex on Jalan Gunung Athena II in Denpasar.
“We are currently carrying out evacuations. I am on my way to the location,” said Denpasar Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Secretary Agung Surya when met on Jalan Gunung Athena, Sunday.
Earlier, flooding also struck Jalan Tangkuban Perahu in Kerobokan, Badung, where at least 20 residents were evacuated starting at around 2:30 a.m. local time (WITA).
Agung confirmed that two residents from Widuri Permai had been evacuated earlier in the morning. However, dozens of other residents chose to remain in their homes.
“They did not want to be evacuated. Some houses are only one storey, but because the land is slightly higher, residents decided to stay,” he explained.
Efforts to pump out floodwaters began at around 8:00 a.m., but conditions had not fully improved by midday due to the high volume of incoming water.
“Pumping efforts have been ongoing since this morning, but the results are not yet optimal,” Agung added.
In other parts of Denpasar, such as Perum Buana Permai, floodwaters had started to recede by midday. Residents were seen cleaning mud and damaged household items.
“Many of our belongings could not be saved,” said local resident Umi Habibah.
Flooding in Seminyak Tourism Area
Flooding hit Jalan Kunti, Seminyak, starting at around 3:00 a.m. WITA. Despite rainfall easing in the morning, standing water remained in the area due to its low-lying terrain.
“This area is a basin. There are rivers on both sides that overflowed into this road,” said I Ketut Murdika, Head of Emergency and Logistics at BPBD Badung.
Due to the depth of the water, Jalan Kunti II was temporarily closed to traffic. A car was reported to have stalled while attempting to pass through the flooded road earlier in the morning. The Badung Public Works Agency (PUPR) deployed high-capacity pumps to speed up drainage.
Extreme Weather Linked to Tropical Cyclone Seed
The flooding occurred amid warnings from Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) about heavy rainfall and strong winds across Bali and West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) on Sunday.
BMKG stated that the conditions were influenced by Tropical Cyclone Seed 93S, which began forming on 11 December in the Indian Ocean south of Bali and NTB.
“Tropical Cyclone Seed 93S has indirectly impacted extreme weather conditions across parts of Indonesia within the 24-hour period up to 14 December 2025 at 1:00 p.m. WIB,” BMKG said in a written statement on Saturday, 13 December 2025.
The agency added that the system is supported by active Equatorial Rossby waves and low-frequency atmospheric waves. BMKG warned that the intensity of the system is expected to remain persistent and may continue to strengthen over the next 24 hours.
Authorities have urged residents, tourists, and businesses in flood-prone areas to remain alert and limit outdoor activities during periods of heavy rain.
