KLUNGKUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – The six-month deadline set by the Bali Provincial Government for the removal of the controversial glass elevator structure at Kelingking Beach, Nusa Penida, continues to run, with no visible dismantling activity as of early January 2026.

Nusa Penida Subdistrict Head Kadek Yoga Kusuma confirmed that there has been no significant change at the project site. He said the subdistrict administration, together with local Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) officers, recently conducted a direct inspection.

“The last site inspection with Satpol PP was about a week ago. The condition remains the same, with no dismantling or construction activity,” Yoga Kusuma said on Tuesday (6/1).

A similar statement was delivered by Klungkung Regency Satpol PP Head Dewa Putu Suwarbawa. He stated that the project owner has yet to follow up on the dismantling order issued by the Bali Provincial Government.

“There has been no dismantling so far. There is also no activity at the site,” Suwarbawa emphasized.

The dismantling recommendation stems from the findings of the Bali Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) Special Committee on Spatial Planning, Assets, and Licensing. The committee concluded that the glass elevator project violated multiple regulations, including spatial planning rules, environmental protection standards, licensing requirements, and Bali’s cultural tourism principles.

From a spatial planning perspective, the structure was built within a cliff setback zone and lacks a governor’s recommendation, as required under Bali Provincial Regulation No. 3 of 2020. The project was also deemed non-compliant with Government Regulation No. 5 of 2021 on risk-based business licensing.

In addition, the construction site is located within the Nusa Penida marine conservation area, as designated by Bali Governor Decree No. 1828 of 2017. The zone is intended for sustainable fisheries, and large-scale physical development is not permitted.

Tourism considerations were also cited in the evaluation. The glass elevator was found to conflict with Bali Provincial Regulation No. 5 of 2020 on Cultural Tourism Standards, as it is considered to alter the natural authenticity and character of Kelingking Beach as a nature-based tourist destination.

If the project owner fails to carry out the dismantling independently within the six-month period, Bali Provincial Satpol PP has stated it will proceed with forced demolition of the glass elevator structure.
