KLUNGKUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – A foreign tourist from Slovenia was found dead inside a homestay room in Lembongan Village, Nusa Penida District, Klungkung Regency, on Monday (March 16), authorities confirmed.
Police identified the victim as Rok Horzen (40), a resident of Brežice, Slovenia, who had been staying at Harta Rumah Homestay in the coastal village on Nusa Lembongan island.
According to Klungkung Police Public Relations officer Iptu I Dewa Nyoman Alit Purnawibawa, the discovery was first reported around 5:30 p.m. local time.
A witness, Ni Ketut Murniati, noticed something unusual while collecting sodaan offerings on the second floor of a building connected to the homestay.
“The witness saw many flies around Room Number 1 and smelled a strong odor coming from inside,” Alit said Monday evening.
Feeling suspicious, the witness informed the homestay owner, I Ketut Saputra. When they checked the room, they found the victim lying inside and unresponsive.
The incident was immediately reported to the Lembongan Police Subsector.
Officers, along with personnel from the Klungkung Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and medical staff from Nusa Medical, arrived at the scene to conduct an initial examination.
Authorities said the body was already swollen when discovered, indicating the victim may have died several days earlier.
Witnesses also told investigators that the victim had not been seen leaving his room for some time. The last confirmed sighting of the tourist was on March 8.
“The exact cause of death cannot yet be determined because the body was already in a swollen condition when found,” Alit explained.
The body was later evacuated from the homestay and transported to Nusa Penida for temporary placement at Gema Santhi Hospital while authorities await further handling and investigation.
