TABANAN, DEWATA.NEWS – Visitor numbers to Tanah Lot, one of Bali’s most iconic tourist attractions, declined in 2025 compared to the previous year. However, despite fewer arrivals, the site recorded a strong financial performance, surpassing its annual revenue target.

Located in Desa Beraban, Tanah Lot welcomed an estimated 1.4 million visitors throughout 2025, down from around 1.7 million visitors in 2024. The decrease was attributed to a range of issues that have recently affected Bali’s tourism sector.

According to Assistant Manager of Tanah Lot Tourist Attraction, I Putu Toni Wirawan, several factors contributed to the decline, including traffic congestion, natural disasters such as flooding, and broader economic pressures impacting travel decisions.

“The decrease in visitor numbers this year was influenced by several issues currently developing in Bali, such as traffic congestion, flooding, and the weakening economic conditions, which indirectly affect tourism,” he said on Tuesday, December 30, 2025.

Despite the lower footfall, Tanah Lot exceeded its revenue expectations. From an initial target of IDR 64.35 billion, the attraction generated approximately IDR 72 billion in revenue during 2025.

Management efforts, including intensified promotion and event-based tourism, were cited as key contributors to the positive financial outcome. An arts and culinary festival held in August 2025 also played a role in boosting both visitor interest and spending.

“Most of our visitors are foreign tourists, whose ticket prices are higher than domestic visitors, which has helped increase overall revenue,” Toni added.

Toward the end of the year, visitor trends showed signs of recovery. Since December 20, 2025, average daily arrivals increased from around 1,000–3,000 visitors per day to approximately 4,000–6,000 visitors per day.

Domestic tourists continued to dominate overall visits, particularly travelers from East Java, Central Java, Jakarta, and Yogyakarta, many of whom arrived in organized bus groups. Meanwhile, international visitors were largely from India, China, other Asian countries, Australia, and Europe.

Looking ahead, Tanah Lot management remains cautiously optimistic that visitor numbers will continue to rise into early 2026.

“We hope that visitor numbers will continue to improve through January 2026,” Toni said.
