BADUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – An 18-year-old tourist, Ayu Sherina, was swept away by a strong current while surfing at Geger Beach in Nusa Dua, Badung, on Thursday afternoon. She was carried approximately 300 meters south of the shoreline before being pushed toward a cliff area.

According to Kadek Sujana, Field Coordinator at the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office (SAR), the incident occurred while Ayu was surfing with several friends. They had arrived at the beach around 17.00 WITA.

“While surfing, a tourist was pulled away by the current at Geger Beach,” Sujana said on Friday, 5 December 2025.

After about two hours in the water, Ayu was caught by a strong current and pushed by waves toward the base of the cliff. Her friends, who witnessed the incident, immediately sought help from nearby visitors and reported the situation to SAR Denpasar.

SAR officers received the emergency call at 19.35 WITA. A team of five rescuers was deployed to search for her. By around 21.00 WITA, they managed to detect her position.

“The location where she was found was quite far from the initial report. She survived by trying to reach the cliff,” Sujana explained.

Ayu was successfully evacuated in a conscious state. She sustained minor abrasions and showed signs of hypothermia after spending an extended time in the water.

“She received immediate medical attention from the ambulance crew. Later that night, Ayu Sherina was transported back to her accommodation in Jimbaran,” Sujana added.

Authorities remind visitors to exercise caution when surfing or swimming, especially during changing tide and current conditions.
