GIANYAR, DEWATA.NEWS – The cleanup process following the collapse of a large banyan tree in front of Puri Kantor on Jalan Suweta, Ubud, was officially completed on Friday (Feb 20), restoring normal conditions along one of Ubud’s main access roads.

The final stage of the operation included clearing remaining debris and repairing affected public utilities in the area.

Head of the Gianyar Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Ida Bagus Putu Suamba, accompanied by Head of Emergency and Logistics IGN Dibya Presasta, confirmed that traffic and activity along the main Ubud route have returned to normal.

The handling of the incident involved the Gianyar Multi-Sector Rapid Response Team (TRC) in coordination with several agencies, including the Public Works and Spatial Planning Office (PUPR), Environmental Agency (DLH), state electricity company PLN, Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), Fire and Rescue Service (Damkarmat), as well as the Indonesian Military (TNI) and National Police (Polri).

Authorities categorized the event as part of a hydrometeorological disaster, typically associated with weather-related factors such as strong winds or heavy rainfall.

Following the physical cleanup, the extended family of Puri Kantor conducted traditional rituals in accordance with Balinese customary practices. Pangelingsir (senior figure) of Puri Kantor Ubud and Deputy Chair of the Gianyar Regional House of Representatives, Tjokorda Gede Asmara Putra, said the palace held a “mecaru ngeresigana kerubuhan” purification ceremony to spiritually cleanse the area after the incident.

“The pecaruan ceremony began at 09:00 WITA at Puri Saren and was followed by a similar ceremony at Puri Kantor,” he explained.

With both the physical clearing of debris and the completion of the customary rituals, activities along Jalan Suweta and the surrounding area of Puri Kantor Ubud are expected to proceed normally.

For visitors staying in or traveling through Ubud, the main corridor along Jalan Suweta is now fully accessible.
