KARANGASEM, DEWATA.NEWS – The number of hikers on Mount Agung has decreased toward the end of 2025, with local guides reporting a noticeable drop compared to previous months.

According to I Wayan Widi Yasa, Head of the Mount Agung Pasar Agung Route Guides Association, the volcano now sees an average of around 20 trekkers per day.

“In previous months, we could receive up to 50 visitors per day, including domestic tourists, on the Pasar Agung route. Other popular routes show similar patterns,” Widi Yasa said on Friday, 5 December 2025.

He explained that the decline is primarily due to the arrival of the low season. In addition, the rainy period, expected to continue until April, has made trekking less common due to safety considerations. “Weather conditions play a major role because they directly affect safety,” he noted.

Widi Yasa emphasized that the decrease has no connection to recent social media buzz about white smoke reportedly rising from Mount Agung’s crater. “The reduction in trekking activity is purely because we have entered the low season,” he clarified.
