BADUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – Authorities at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali are preparing a major reorganization of the international arrivals area in an effort to reduce congestion and improve passenger flow.
Ngurah Rai Immigration Office Head Bugie Kurniawan said the current layout has become overly crowded due to the number of service desks positioned between arriving passengers and immigration counters.
“When passengers arrive, even from our perspective as officers, the arrivals area feels crowded. There are too many desks and institutions located between passengers and the immigration counters,” Bugie said in Badung on Wednesday (May 6, 2026).
According to immigration authorities, the redesign will focus on creating a more streamlined passenger flow through a new layout and revised movement system within the arrivals hall.
Under the new arrangement, all desks currently positioned in the central arrival corridor will be removed to create a sterile central pathway directing passengers immediately toward immigration processing.
The current Visa on Arrival (VoA) counters, which are located in the middle of the arrivals area, will be relocated to the left and right sides of the terminal.
Passengers with complete travel documents will be able to proceed directly through immigration using either automated gates or conventional counters. Travelers who still need a visa or have not completed the All Indonesia digital entry system will be directed to designated service counters.
“The middle area will be sterilized so passengers can move directly to immigration, whether to the auto gates or manual counters,” Bugie explained.
Authorities are also working to increase the use of automated immigration gates, which are considered faster while still maintaining security standards.
The planned changes come as Bali continues to handle high volumes of international arrivals, particularly from tourists visiting the island during peak travel periods.
