BADUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – The Badung Regency Government has started preparations to revitalize the pedestrian area along Jalan Pantai Kuta as part of a broader effort to restore Kuta’s appeal as one of Bali’s leading international tourism destinations.
The project will focus on upgrading the beachfront pedestrian corridor stretching from Hard Rock Hotel to Pullman Kuta. Initial field measurements and site setting-out activities were completed on Wednesday (May 20).
Head of Badung Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (PUPR), I Nyoman Karyasa, said the redevelopment is targeted for implementation in the 2026 regional budget year.
“Initial field inspections have already been conducted by the Highways Division of the Badung PUPR Office,” Karyasa said on Thursday (May 21).
Separately, Head of the Highways Division, I Putu Teddy Widnyana Putra, explained that the government had begun conducting persuasive outreach to local residents and business owners before the physical construction phase begins.
An official socialization meeting was held on Friday (May 15), involving landowners and nearby business operators.
According to Teddy, the public response to the project has generally been positive, although some businesses requested additional time for internal coordination because several commercial properties operate on leased land.
Under the preliminary design, the pedestrian pathway is planned to reach approximately 5.15 meters in width from the roadside. However, the final dimensions may still change depending on actual field conditions and land status along the project corridor.
“We are still identifying whether the pedestrian area can be expanded to that width or if adjustments are needed. We will continue approaching landowners to help support this government program,” Teddy explained.
The upgraded pedestrian route is planned to extend around 1.5 kilometers and will be developed in stages based on regional budget capacity. Part of the project is expected to begin this year, while the remaining sections are scheduled for completion in 2027.
The physical construction process is currently entering the tender phase.
The redevelopment forms part of the Badung Government’s broader strategy to revive Kuta’s tourism image. Following directions from Badung Regent I Wayan Adi Arnawa, the pedestrian corridor is being designed not only as a sidewalk but also as a comfortable and aesthetically attractive public space.
The future development will include wider walkways, landscaped gardens, large shade trees, public seating areas, and underground utility systems intended to create a cleaner and more organized tourism environment.
“Our goal is to reorganize Kuta. We hope landowners and business operators can contribute to the success of this government program. There will be no land acquisition, so we ask for public support,” Teddy said.
The project comes as local authorities continue pushing efforts to improve Bali’s tourism infrastructure and visitor experience in key tourism zones.
