BULELENG, DEWATA.NEWS – A shallow earthquake struck northern Bali early Thursday morning (April 23, 2026), with tremors felt across Buleleng and reaching parts of Tabanan.
According to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake occurred at 05:34:44 WITA with a magnitude of 3.8.
The epicenter was located on land at coordinates 8.21° South Latitude and 115.02° East Longitude, approximately 13 kilometers southwest of Buleleng, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
“Based on the epicenter location and depth, this was a shallow earthquake caused by activity along an active fault on land,” said Cahyo Nugroho, Head of BMKG Region III Denpasar.
The tremors were felt at an intensity of III on the Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) scale in both Buleleng and Tabanan. Residents reported noticeable shaking indoors, similar to the sensation of a passing truck.
Authorities confirmed that there have been no reports of damage or casualties resulting from the earthquake.
“Based on tsunami modeling, this earthquake does not have the potential to generate a tsunami,” Nugroho added.
As of 06:00 WITA, monitoring data showed no signs of aftershocks.
Officials advised residents to remain calm and continue following updates from official sources.
