BULELENG, DEWATA.NEWS – A cultural performance stage in Giri Emas, Buleleng, was severely damaged after being hit by high sea waves, with total losses estimated at IDR 200 million, local authorities said.
The head of the Buleleng Disaster Management Agency, Gede Suyasa, confirmed that the damage worsened on Friday, January 23, 2026, following continued wave impact along the coastline. An on-site assessment was conducted to determine the extent of structural damage.
“Based on our assessment, the damage is significant due to erosion caused by high sea waves,” Suyasa said on Sunday, January 25, 2026.
According to BPBD findings, the waves destroyed the stage’s foundation, which measures approximately six meters in length, 4.5 meters in width, and two meters in depth. The concrete stage floor, around four centimeters thick, also sustained major damage.
In addition to the main stage, the dressing room area behind it was affected. Cracks were found in both the foundation and floor, raising safety concerns for performers and visitors.
“The damage to the dressing room poses a safety risk, as the structure has weakened due to repeated wave impact,” Suyasa explained.
The Giri Emas village administration has begun emergency mitigation measures to prevent further deterioration. As a temporary solution, the village is reinforcing the foundation with sand-filled plastic bags to reduce ongoing erosion and seawater intrusion.
BPBD Buleleng has recommended that any future reconstruction involve relocating the stage further away from the shoreline. “We advise moving the stage to a safer location and installing warning signs so the public can be more cautious when carrying out activities around the damaged structure,” Suyasa said.
