BADUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – An Egyptian national was reportedly targeted in a street snatching incident while riding a motorcycle through North Kuta, Badung Regency, in the early hours of Friday (29/5/2026).
The victim, identified by initials AAAE, 43, lost an iPhone 17 Pro Max valued at approximately IDR 30 million after it was forcibly taken by an unidentified motorcyclist on Jalan Raya Padang Luwih in Dalung Village.
According to Badung Police public relations officer Aiptu Ni Nyoman Ayu Inastuti, the incident occurred at around 2:10 a.m. local time while the victim was traveling from Kuta to his accommodation in Ubud, Gianyar.
While passing through the area, the victim noticed another motorcycle riding alongside him. At the time, he did not suspect any criminal intent.
Moments later, the rider allegedly grabbed the victim’s smartphone, which had been mounted on a motorcycle phone holder for navigation purposes.
“The iPhone 17 Pro Max was attached to the motorcycle holder and being used for Google Maps navigation. According to the victim, the suspected offender was wearing a black hoodie,” Inastuti said on Monday (1/6).
After taking the phone, the suspect immediately sped away from the scene.
The victim attempted to pursue the motorcyclist but was unable to catch up and eventually lost sight of the suspect.
The incident was subsequently reported to Badung Police.
Police officers responded by visiting the location, collecting witness statements, reviewing nearby CCTV footage, and conducting a crime scene investigation to identify the perpetrator.
“Investigators are still actively working on the case,” Inastuti added.
Authorities have not yet announced any arrests in connection with the incident.
