GIANYAR, DEWATA.NEWS – A fallen waru tree partially blocked Monkey Forest Road in Ubud on Saturday afternoon (10/1/2026), briefly disrupting traffic and causing temporary congestion in one of the area’s busiest tourist corridors.

The incident occurred at around 14:15 WITA in Padangtegal Kelod, Ubud District, Gianyar Regency. The tree collapsed onto part of the roadway and struck the front roof section of a shop owned by a local resident identified by the initials INY, resulting in minor structural damage.

No injuries were reported in the incident. Material losses were estimated at approximately IDR 3 million.

Initial on-site assessments indicated that the tree likely fell due to decayed roots and unstable soil conditions, which weakened its ability to support its weight and caused it to collapse toward the road.

Officers from Ubud Police, led by Duty Supervising Officer Aiptu Sang Kompyang Juliawan, arrived at the location at around 15:00 WITA. Police immediately managed traffic flow while clearing the fallen tree by cutting branches and the trunk using chainsaws and moving the debris to the roadside.

Thanks to the swift response, traffic conditions returned to normal by approximately 15:15 WITA. The situation was reported to be safe and under control.

Ubud Police Chief Kompol I Wayan Putra Antara urged the public to remain vigilant, especially during periods of extreme or unstable weather.

“We advise residents and property owners along main roads to be more aware of their surroundings, particularly large trees that may pose a risk. If there are signs of danger, they should be reported immediately so preventive action can be taken,” he said.

Police confirmed they will continue coordinating with relevant agencies to reduce the risk of similar incidents and ensure the safety of road users and the surrounding community.
