Officers clear fallen tree debris from Junjungan Road in Ubud, Gianyar, after the incident temporarily disrupted traffic following heavy rain and strong winds.

GIANYAR, DEWATA.NEWS – Traffic along Junjungan Road in Ubud was temporarily brought to a complete halt after a large tree collapsed and blocked the roadway on Tuesday afternoon, January 20, 2026, at around 4:00 pm WITA.

Witnesses at the scene, I Made Agus Mahardika and I Wayan Tirta, said the tree, measuring approximately 30 centimeters in diameter, suddenly fell and completely obstructed the road. Concerned about potential congestion, local residents quickly contacted neighborhood authorities, the Ubud sub-district office, and Polsek Ubud to request assistance.

Ubud Police Chief I Wayan Putra Antara said initial field assessments indicated that the tree likely fell due to a decayed trunk and unstable soil conditions. Recent extreme weather, including heavy rainfall and strong winds affecting the Gianyar area over the past several days, was also cited as a contributing factor.

“There were no injuries or material losses in this incident. However, the entire road was blocked, causing traffic to stop completely for a period of time,” Putra Antara said on Wednesday, January 21.

Following the report, officers from Polsek Ubud, together with the BPBD Gianyar, arrived at the location and immediately carried out evacuation efforts. Using chainsaws, the joint team cut the fallen tree into sections and moved the debris to the roadside.

Once the roadway was cleared, officers managed traffic flow and dispersed vehicle queues that had formed during the evacuation process. Authorities later confirmed that traffic on Junjungan Road had fully returned to normal and was safe for both motorcycles and cars.

Police have advised residents and road users to remain cautious when traveling through areas with dense trees, particularly during periods of extreme weather in Ubud and surrounding areas.
