DENPASAR, DEWATA.NEWS – A foreign national from France has been detained by police following an alleged assault at a gym in West Denpasar that left a local resident injured.
The incident occurred on Wednesday morning (April 15, 2026) at a gym located on Jalan Pura Demak, according to West Denpasar Police Chief Commissioner Ni Wayan Adnyani Prabawati.
Police said the victim, identified by initials IGAIG (34), arrived at the gym at around 07:30 WITA and proceeded to the second floor to use a treadmill. Shortly afterward, the suspect, identified as RK (25), approached the victim.
“The suspect suddenly grabbed the victim’s shoulder and delivered a blow, causing injury. The victim did not clearly see what object was used,” Prabawati said.
The victim attempted to block further attacks, causing the suspect to fall. The suspect then left the gym, prompting the victim to briefly pursue him before returning due to exhaustion.
Following the incident, the victim was taken by family members to Bali Med Hospital in Denpasar before being referred to Prof. Ngoerah General Hospital in Sanglah for medical examination.
Medical assessment reported a wound approximately 1.5 centimeters on the left side of the victim’s head, along with general body pain.
Police launched a search shortly after receiving the report and successfully located and detained the suspect, who has since been taken to West Denpasar Police Station for further investigation.
Authorities have not disclosed the motive behind the incident, and the case remains under investigation.
