BANGLI, DEWATA.NEWS – The management of Penglipuran Tourism Village in Bangli Regency has announced plans to implement an entry control system during the upcoming Christmas and New Year (Nataru) holiday period, as visitor numbers are expected to rise significantly.

Chairman of Penglipuran Tourism Village Management, I Wayan Sumiarsa, said current daily visits remain stable at around 2,000 visitors per day, largely made up of school groups.

However, a surge is projected to begin on December 22, with daily arrivals estimated to reach 3,000 visitors, exceeding the village’s ideal carrying capacity of 2,000 visitors per day.

To maintain visitor comfort and environmental sustainability during peak periods, the management has prepared a series of mitigation measures. These include deploying full operational teams supported by the traditional village authorities.

“We will involve all pecalang (traditional security officers) and personnel from organizations under the customary village to ensure smooth visitor flow on the ground,” Sumiarsa said.

A temporary open-and-close entry system will also be enforced. Visitors will be asked to wait outside the village area once capacity limits are reached. This approach is intended to regulate entry intervals and prevent overcrowding within Penglipuran.

“Through this system, we can manage the rhythm of visitor entry so there is no excessive congestion inside the village,” Sumiarsa explained.

The management has also coordinated with the Bangli regional government to help redirect tourists to alternative destinations when Penglipuran reaches capacity.

Visitors may be encouraged to explore nearby attractions such as Kintamani before returning to Penglipuran at a later time.

According to Sumiarsa, proactive visitor management is essential to avoid negative environmental impacts, including unmanaged waste volume and reduced quality of life for local residents.

“We are not solely focused on economic value, but on maintaining harmony between people, nature, and spiritual life, in line with the Tri Hita Karana philosophy,” he said.

For 2025, Penglipuran has set a daily visitor target of 2,000 people, a reduction of around 10–12 percent compared to the previous year, aimed at preserving service quality and long-term sustainability.

Despite the adjustment, management remains optimistic that total annual visits could reach around 900,000 visitors by year-end.
