BADUNG, DEWATA.NEWS – Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting at a bar in Canggu, Bali, that left two people injured, including a foreign national.

The suspect, identified by the initials HSH, 49, was arrested on Saturday night (July 18) at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport while allegedly attempting to board a flight to Kuala Lumpur.

Badung Police spokesperson Aiptu Ni Nyoman Ayu Inastuti said the arrest was the result of a joint operation involving the Bali Police Criminal Investigation Directorate, the Badung Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police, and Indonesian Immigration authorities.

“The investigation is still ongoing, and we will provide further information once investigators complete the examination,” Inastuti said on Sunday (July 19).

Following his arrest, the suspect was flown to Bali for questioning at Badung Police Headquarters.

Police also seized a handgun believed to have been used in the shooting.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday (July 17) at a bar on Jalan Pantai Berawa in North Kuta, Badung Regency.

Two people were injured: a bar security guard identified by the initials IMYM and a foreign national identified by the initials EA.

Investigators said the security guard sustained a gunshot wound to the left thigh, with the bullet passing through the leg. The foreign national suffered a gunshot wound above the left knee and remains under medical treatment.

Immediately after the shooting, investigators from Badung Police and North Kuta Police secured the scene, interviewed witnesses, collected evidence, and reviewed CCTV footage under the supervision of Badung Police Chief AKBP Joseph Edward Purba.

According to witness statements, the incident began after an altercation broke out near the bar’s DJ booth.

Witnesses told investigators that the security guard attempted to intervene in a dispute between the suspect and the foreign national.

During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly produced a handgun and fired a shot, injuring both men before fleeing the scene.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue questioning the suspect and examining evidence recovered during the operation.
