GIANYAR, DEWATA.NEWS – A viral social media video showing an alleged theft incident at a villa in Ubud has been confirmed by police to have been resolved amicably between the parties involved.
The incident reportedly took place at a resort in Payangan, Gianyar, on Sunday (April 19, 2026) around 10:00 WITA. The individuals involved were identified as a group of four foreign nationals from India who had been staying at the property since April 16.
The case came to light during the check-out process when housekeeping staff conducted a routine room inspection and found several items missing. Reported items included coasters, bath and pool towels, a hair dryer, kimono robes, floor mats, a TV remote box, and dining utensils.
Hotel management temporarily delayed the check-out to clarify the situation directly with the guests. Following mediation, the guests acknowledged taking the items without permission and issued a formal apology to the resort.
All items were returned on-site, and both parties agreed to resolve the matter internally without pursuing legal action. The guests were later allowed to continue their travel plans after the agreement was reached.
Gianyar Police confirmed they had reviewed the viral footage and conducted verification at the location.
“Police have checked the viral video and confirmed that the matter was resolved amicably by both parties at the scene,” said I Gusti Ngurah Suardita, spokesperson for Gianyar Police, on Tuesday (April 21).
Authorities also urged the public and social media users to remain cautious in interpreting and sharing information online.
Police stated they will continue monitoring the situation to ensure public order and security in Gianyar remains stable.
